I’d just quit my corporate job to work full time creatively. Shedding that neurotic corporate psychopathy was this song’s inspiration. I recall humming Ella Fitzgerald’s version of Duke Ellington’s “Take the A Train” while going home on the actual A Train in NYC. That’s when the idiosyncratic notion of adding "home for Christmas” popped into my brain. Referencing the Duke’s original music in the arrangement made composing this Christmas song special.
